Match Report – 15th May 2010

20 05 2010

BATHFORD 3: 217-5, ALL CANNINGS: 147 all out

Our second completed match of the season brought our first loss. Winning the toss, All Cannings chose to make use of the new ball by bowling first but wickets proved hard to come by as Bathford’s batsmen rode their luck. Despite having only ten players on the field Cannings managed to keep the run rate under control for the majority of the innings. However this changed towards the end with Bathford’s number six, having looked very uncomfortable against the final balls of quicker bowling, attacking the slower bowlers and allowing them put on 70 runs in the last six overs.

After that Cannings’ heads dropped slightly, and with Tom Chadwick succumbing to a questionable LBW decision on 24 the task looked daunting. Richard Sykes rallied to put on 40 but unfortunately nobody else could manage to follow suit and Cannings were bowled out for 147 to end a disappointing afternoon.

Match Report for 8th May

9 05 2010

All Cannings: 222-5, Westbury 3: 143 all out

On an unseasonably cold day we managed to get our first completed league game of the season. After losing the toss Cannings were put in to bat and opener Tom Chadwick was in fine form, hitting four sixes on his way to 123 before eventually getting bowled. Richard Sykes contributed a useful 38.

With 222 to defend, Cannings started the bowling well with Graham Mansell breaking the opening partnership early. Harry Easton, a last minute call up from the under 13s, impressed with a solid six overs and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket on his league debut. Sykes, having casually declared himself the club’s “senior all-rounder”, did some justice to that claim with three wickets from nine overs. Having opened, captain Hugo Saye brought himself back on late and his second spell required just nine balls to pick up the final three wickets of the game and complete a pleasing first result in our new division.

A message from Greg Lock, Chairman, and Andrew Saye, President, of ACCC

1 05 2010

To all of our players from two old farts,

As we start a new season we want to wish you all fun and games, and much enjoyment of the matches, ground, pavilion and competition. As you will see a lot of effort has gone in over the past few years to make the wicket one of the best in the league, to erect and furnish a pavilion which is the envy of many clubs and to provide practice and coaching facilities we can be proud of.

This work has all been voluntary and the main beneficiaries are you the players, after all that’s why we exist, to play and enjoy cricket !

Now comes the plea to you all as players to support the efforts of all those who raise money, prepare the wicket, cut the outfield, make the teas, coach and manage 30 or 40 kids, keep on the straight and narrow with regulations ( like them or not) , provide insurance to safeguard your pockets and generally keep the show on the road.

Please give as much time as you can when asked to help with special tasks at the ground, and above all else please make sure you pay your match fees promptly. These monies are vital to our cash flow so we can meet all the commitments that go with providing the facilities that you all enjoy. Please keep all this in mind and help us by considering  our volunteers and friends and helping as much as you are able. We thank all of you who have volunteered in helping prepare for this season and we hope you enjoy it.

Andrew Saye – President

Greg Lock  – Chairman
